Paul Crabtree

Paul Crabtree

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Paul passed away on Thursday the 25th of August following a long illness. His family were present at his bedside.

Paul was born and raised near Hathersage in the Peak District and the son of a Clergyman.  Paul took an interest in railways from a very early age and initially worked on the railway as a freight train guard.  He then took up teaching and was a teacher in Hitchin for many years and very much admired by all his students.

He was the Chairman of the Letchworth Model Railway Society for a number of years until his illness forced him to resign.  He provided true leadership and was always full of great new ideas for the Club and its layouts and was always ready to share his knowledge and wealth of experience with members.

His knowledge of railways and railway modelling was extensive and he was very well known throughout the hobby, he will be very much missed by all Club members and all his numerous friends in the railway modelling world.
